Every year, the World Health Organization observes World Mental Health Day on October 10th. This year’s topic focuses on suicide prevention. Did you know that every 40 seconds, someone loses their life to suicide? This World Mental Health Day, we encourage you to participate in “40 seconds of action” to help raise awareness about the massive scale of suicide.

We encourage you to seek mental health treatment in Minnesota if you are suffering, and you can take action on the 10th in the following ways.

Start a Conversation

Suicide is a topic that isn’t talked about very often, so one way to end the stigma is by starting a meaningful conversation about it in a way that suits you. For example, maybe you notice a friend who has been struggling, and you take the time to privately reach out to them to make sure they are okay. If you want your message to be more public, you could create a video or social media post about the importance of suicide awareness.
