By now, whether you’re currently seeking mental health treatment in Minnesota or not, we are all feeling the effects of COVID-19. From losing jobs to worrying about catching the coronavirus in general, we are living through a history book and everyone is feeling the effects. Our team at Options Family & Behavior Services is here to tell you that it is okay to feel scared or upset during this time as long as you don’t let those feelings linger too long. Anxiety can easily consume you, but fortunately, there are measures that you can take to combat this feeling as well.

Establish a Routine

Regardless of your age, a routine is an important part of staying level-headed during this time. If you were used to waking up at a certain time before COVID-19 hit, continue waking up at that time even if you don’t have anywhere to go. Showering in the morning and putting on real clothes versus always wearing sweatpants can help you feel more productive throughout the day as well.

Harness Nervous Energy

It’s common to have some extra nervous energy during this time, but instead of letting it get the best of you, try to use it in a productive way. If you’re a parent, make sure to lead by example and practice self-care habits that your children can take part in as well. There are many safe activities that can still be completed during this time, including coloring, gardening, staying active outside, cooking a new recipe, reading, and more. Find something to fill some of your free time.

Don’t Get Upset Over Loss

It’s only natural to feel sadness during this time. Don’t pretend like you shouldn’t be experiencing these emotions and don’t compare yourself to how other people are handling it. If at any point your stress feels too overwhelming, there are resources like mental health treatment in Minnesota that are available.

At the end of the day, we’re all in this together. Continue to practice social distancing and take care of yourself one day at a time!
